Ossining One Win Away from State Final Four

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- One team’s perfect season will come to an end Friday when Ossining plays Section 4 titlist Binghamton in a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA Girls’ Basketball regional final at 4:30 p.m. at Pace University.

This is the second consecutive year the teams have met in regionals. Last year, Binghamton eliminated Ossining, 77-67, in a regional semifinal.

Ossining, (22-0) led by Saniya Chong, is ranked third in the New York State Sportswriters Association Class AA poll and will look to reverse last year’s final score. Binghamton (21-0) and ranked second in the Class AA poll, advanced to the regional final with a 50-41 win over Valley Central (Section 9) Wednesday. The final score was indicative of how lopsided the game was. Tiahana Mills led Binghamton with a game-high 21 points.

“It should be a great game between two undefeated teams with the right to go to the state final four,” Ossining coach Dan Ricci said. “It will be their size vs. our speed.”

The winner advances to the state final four at Hudson Valley Community College on Friday and Saturday, March 16-17.
