Ossining's Norka Vera Named Bilingual Parent Of The Year

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining parent Norka Vera recently received the honor of Bilingual Parent of the Year.

Vera was honored by the New York State Association for Bilingual Education at its annual convention in New York City. Vera, who has two children in Ossining’s Dual Language Program, was nominated by Mirla Puello, director of English and English as a second language for the Ossining School District.

In her nominating letter, Puello said that Vera “has established herself as a true leader and advocate for bilingualism” and “has been instrumental in providing services to students," according to a release.

Vera previously organized events such as the Bilingual Teatro Night with the Peekskill School District and the Dual Language Eighth-Grade Moving Up Dance. Vera is on the Parent Advisory Board for Dual Language and attends all meetings related to the program.
