Chu-McGovern had been a music teacher at AMD Middle School since September 2008, the letter read. She was one of the founding members of the Rivertowns Orchestra, helped coordinate Ossining LIVE and helped organize concerts at AMD, according to the district.

"I am writing to share with you the unfortunate passing of a staff member, Ms. Christine Chu-McGovern," said Sanchez in the letter. "To say that Christine enjoyed her job each day would be an understatement.  Christine lived to teach.  Included in Christine’s employment file is an essay which she completed when hired in the Ossining School District.  In this essay, she states 'students should learn to play music from different areas of the world – to learn musical aspects while being exposed to world music and cultures.'  Christine stood true to this commitment each and every day in the Ossining School District.  She embraced all students.

"Christine truly loved music and loved to share her passion through her teaching.  She was an educator, role model, and friend to students and staff throughout our District."

Sanchez reminded residents that support for students and staff would be available at AMD Middle School and throughout the district.
