A man was seen fishing from a kayak Thursday morning, but the kayak was found capsized hours later without the angler.

A new surveillance video uncovered Friday shows the man launching the kayak at the Whitins Reservoir in Douglas Thursday morning. However, the video shows him leaving without the kayak at 2 p.m., meaning it was most likely left in the water, police said.

Original Story: Rescue crews resumed their search for a possible missing kayaker at a Worcester County reservoir on Friday, Aug. 18, after turning up nothing the day before.

Witnesses told police they saw a man fishing from a kayak at Whitins Reservoir in Douglas on Thursday morning. Later that day, the kayak was found capsized, but the angler was nowhere to be found, police said.

Douglas firefighters, police, and Massachusetts State Police searched late into Thursday evening and resumed their efforts Friday morning. Environmental Police Marine Unit equipped with side-scan sonar joined the search, and dozens of other agencies are assisting.

The Douglas Fire Department released a photo of the kayak in the hopes that someone would recognize it or know its owner.
