Gearity defeated Hanauer 2,705 votes to 1,494 votes with 100 percent of the vote counted, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections.
"The village had a voice and they chose change," Hanauer said. "Of course I’m disappointed, I love this village and if that’s what the majority wants, that’s what they want."
Hanauer said "never say never" when asked if he was done with village politics.
Hanauer was running for a fifth term on the Working Families party line after losing to Gearity in the Democratic primary in September. Gearity served one term on the village board.
Hanauer has been mayor since 2006.
John Codman and Omar Herrera ran unopposed in the village Board of Trustee elections.
