Officers from the Scarsdale Police Department were dispatched to a Brite Avenue home at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, where there was a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival at the scene, officers were directed by the family member to a vehicle that was parked and occupied in front of the residence.

Police said that the family member told them that the man inside the vehicle - identified as Flushing resident Zhijun Li - had just assaulted his sister-in-law. Li was removed from the vehicle, and officers noted that he had several blood stains on his shirt before he was handcuffed.

According to police, Li said he had an argument with his wife in regards to their 4-year-old son taking a bath. The family member said he had been alerted to a domestic incident between Li and his wife, and when he came into the Scarsdale home, he found Li on top of her. He was able to break the fight up and called the police. The couple’s son was also in the room at the time of the alleged assault. During the attack, Li’s wife suffered a bloody nose and lip, and there was swelling on the right side of her face.

Li, 50, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of assault and endangering hte welfare of a child. A Temporary Order of Protection was also issued for his wife and child. Li posted $250 bail and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday, Oct. 10 to answer the charges.
