Police Subdue Man With Swords In Ossining

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining Police were able to successfully subdue a man who barricaded himself in an attic with swords early Thursday morning, according to News 12

Police were called to Park Avenue at 4 a.m. by the man's wife, according to News 12. 

The woman said her husband was intoxicated and she was concerned for his life, according to the report.

The man, 49, warned police to stay back before barricading himself in the attic, according to News 12.

The man finally surrendered, threw his weapons onto the front lawn and was taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, according to the report.

"Today I had the privilege of seeing our department at their finest," Ossining Police Chief Kevin Sylvester said in a post on the Ossining PD Facebook page. "Situations like this always have the potential to turn into tragedy but thanks to a great deal of training, an abundance of patience, and some outstanding teamwork this person will get a second chance at life. I couldn't be more proud of the incredible work by our patrol officers and SWAT team today."
