Ossining Police: Sleepy Hollow Teens Assaulted After Football Game

OSSINING, N.Y. – Ossining Police are investigating an incident that reportedly sent three junior varsity Sleepy Hollow football players to the hospital following Friday night’s game between the two schools.

Three Sleepy Hollow teens, who were wearing their Sleepy Hollow football jerseys, told Ossining Police they were walking on South Highland Avenue near Cedar Place Friday night when they were assaulted and harassed by 15 to 20 teenagers. All three of the teens were taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital and treated for “minor injuries,” said Lt. Michael McElroy of the Village of Ossining Police Department.

“Obviously there was a football game that night and they were walking down South Highland after the game was over,” McElroy said. “They said they were attacked by a group of what they believe to be Ossining High School students.”

All three teens were taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital Friday night with non-life-threatening injuries. Two of the teens were treated and released Friday night while the third stayed the night for observation, McElroy said.

“I think one of the young men had a head injury so they might’ve just wanted to make sure he didn’t have a concussion,” McElroy said, noting that no charges were filed but Village of Ossining Police are investigating the incident. “No charges were filed because (no police) were there. These young men are cooperating with us in our investigation.”

Village of Ossining Mayor William Hanauer said he planned to address the incident briefly during the village’s Board of Trustees work session Tuesday night at 16 Croton Ave.

“It’s so atypical of what happens here and there are a lot of people who are very upset,” Hanauer said Monday. “There are more appropriate venues for this but it will be addressed because people are concerned.”

Hanauer added that he would like to bring up the issue during Friday morning’s Intermunicipal Leadership Council meeting in Ossining. The council is comprised of officials from the Village of Ossining, the Town of Ossining, the Ossining Union Free School District, the Village of Ossining Police Department and other Ossining departments.

“We’re getting together for our quarterly meeting so it will be discussed there,” Hanauer said.
