OSSINING, N.Y. -- A visitor to Sing Sing Correctional Facility was caught trying to smuggle drugs to an inmate she was visiting, according to New York State Police.
Lacieta S. Winfield, 32, of Roosevelt in Nassau County, was charged Tuesday with promoting prison contraband, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of marijuana, police said.
According to Trooper Melissa McMorris, Winfield entered Sing Sing to visit an inmate, and officers found she was carrying marijuana, crack cocaine, and buprenorphine hydrocloride.
Winfield was issued appearance tickets to appear in Ossining Town Court on Thursday.
State police were assisted by the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Office of Special Investigations.
