OSSINING, N.Y. -- Joseph C. Virag passed away peacefully Sept. 5 at his home in Ossining with his wife and children by his side.
He was born Nov. 19, 1930, in the Bronx.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann; and their seven children, Joseph (Monica) Virag, JoAnn Virag, Jeanmarie (Robert) Mullen, Jennifer (Adam) Schoelkopf, Jacqueline (Jason) Hoffman, Jessica (Michael) Piche and James Virag; and 12 grandchildren.
A longtime resident of Ossining, Virag was the owner of Millwood Hardware and Bedford Hardware before passing the stores on to the next generation upon his retirement in 2000.
He spent his retirement expressing his creativity by developing his yard and gardens and creating beautiful fountains and sculptural rain catchers. Having raised his family in the home he built, he continued to enjoy renovating his children’s homes when not relaxing in Florida.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Dorsey Funeral Home, 14 Emwilton Place, Ossining. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Theresa Church, Briarcliff Manor. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to St. Christopher’s Inn, 21 Franciscan Way, Garrison, NY 10524.
