The Ossining-licensed station said on its website that it is not closing for good, but instead "working hard to regroup as a nonprofit media production company."
It added that its groundbreaking LGBTQ youth program, "OutCasting," recently was picked up for national distribution, and it will try to continue "OutCasting," as well as create other new programs.
It's asking its listeners to donate money so it can make the transition to being a nonprofit. It said donations are tax deductible and will not be turned over to the owner of the repeater station now on 90.3 FM.
WDFH, which is licensed in Ossining and reaches a potential audience of about 400,000 listeners, has been on the brink of closing but major donations from Ossining, Katonah and Briarcliff Manor residents delayed the closing last year. Officials said the station recently received a pledged donation of $10,000 from Douglas Durst of The Durst Organization, who listens to the station from his Katonah home. The pledge comes at the condition that the station raise the other $10,000 it needs from other listeners. Durst’s donation inspired Ossining residents Chuck and Gina Bell, who recently made a gift to the station of $2,500.
