Amilia Gullotta, 12, is competing in this year's Miss Teen Westchester pageant, set for 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Life The Place To Be, 2 Lawrence St in Ardsley.

"I'm pretty confident with all the categories. I'm going to try my best and be myself. I think I'll do pretty well," Gullotta said.

The pageant consists of three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and questions from the judges.

If Gullotta wins, she enters Miss Teen New York and then Miss Teen USA. Gullotta has met her competitors and made fast friends, going bowling, eating at Buffalo Wild Wings and watching the Miss USA pageant.

"We do activities together. It's so nice to meet everyone. They are all such great people. It's been a lot of fun," she said.

The seventh grader said she wanted to be in the pageant since she first saw the ad. "I always liked going into my mom's room and trying on her clothes," Gullotta said "We did research and saw this organization believes in giving back and I like helping people. I'm into fundraising," she said.

Gullotta is raising money for Habitat for Humanity as part of a People's Choice Award competition.

She will hold a fundraiser  from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 3 at Louis Engel Waterfront Park on Westerly Road.

Gullotta said Habitat for Humanity is a great cause to help.

"They build homes for people who really can't afford it. They also donate furniture," she said.

So far Gullotta has raised about $320 and is hoping to raise $1,500 to $2,000.

"Helping someone I've never met is such a great feeling," she said.

Gullotta said she is honored to represent Ossining and hopes to represent Westchester.

"Ossining is the town (where) I grew up. Everyone in the community has been so supportive," said Gullotta, who attends Anne M. Dorner Middle School.

To donate to Habitat For Humanity in Gullotta's name make checks payable to Habitat for Humanity Westchester and send them to Miss Westchester Miss Hudson Valley pageants, 18 Summit Avenue, Larchmont,  NY 10538.
