OSSINING, N.Y. -- The Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce is hosting one of its biggest fundraisers of the year Friday, August 22.

LobsterFest 2014 will be held at the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club, 1 Westerly Road. The event features lobsters, a clams and mussels buffet, corn-on-the-cob, potato salad, desserts and a cash bar for $35.

"It's going to be fun," Gayle Marchica, president of the chamber said. "I am very excited. We are hoping to make this a yearly tradition. We're getting reservations from a lot of people whose names we don't recognize, which is a good thing."

The chamber was initially expected to have 50 people but has already sold 125 tickets. Marchica said many people are coming from Rockland County, taking the Haverstraw Ferry to the village. The lobsterfest is the same night as a concert in Engel Park.

"It's going to be a fun Friday night in Ossining," Marchica said.

Any money raised goes right back into helping Ossining's local businesses thrive and grow.

"We want to offer our businesses grants that could help them put up signage or getting their storefront painted. We want to help them contribute and reroute money back in the community."

The chamber helped donate new speakers to the Town of Ossining's donations. Marchica is also happy the boat club was willing to help out.

"We love to be able to show people how beautiful and usable the boat club is," Marchica said. "They have been tremendous.

Marchica said she likes her lobster with butter and hot sauce and with corn on the side.

The chamber has regular meetings with businesses, educating them on topics like growing their business or using social media as a marketing tool. The chamber also offers a health insurance program.

"It's a great spot for people to get information," Marchica said. "We're an incubator for local businesses.

Marchica said she is looking to get businesses downtown and to fill vacant spaces.

"We look forward to continued growth," Marchica said.
