Cardinal Dolan Attending Yorktown's Feast Of San Gennaro

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Among the many blessings of the Feast of San Gennaro, Yorktown’s annual block party, have been authentic Italian foods, music, sparkling lights and a procession with a statue of the saint.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York, will make an appearance at the Feast of San Gennaro in Yorktown on Satursday, Sept. 17. He will also be at St. Patrick's Church on Moseman Road to speak, conduct Mass and install its new pastor.

Now feast-goers can add Timothy Cardinal Dolan, the archbishop of New York, to the list.

This Saturday, Dolan will install Msgr. Joseph Giandurco as the new pastor of Saint Patrick’s Church during Mass.

Dolan will first appear at the church on Moseman Road around 2:30 p.m. to speak about mercy, a church spokesman said. Then, at 5:15, the archbishop will conduct mass and install Giandurco.

Afterwards, Dolan will make an appearance at the feast, which is located on Commerce Street between Downing Drive and Kear Street.

The feast runs from Thursday, Sept. 15, through Sunday, Sept. 18. Its hours are: 5 p.m.-11 p.m. on Sept. 15 and 16; Noon - 11 p.m. on Sept. 17 and 18.

Other highlights include:

  • Food: Zeppoles , rice balls, Italian egg rolls, sausage and pepper wedges, beer and wine.
  • Amusements: A ferris wheel and other rides. 
  • Feast lights: Red-green-and-white light arches, just like those that illuminate the streets during Little Italy’s original feast.
  • Entertainment: Live bands on the feast's main stage. Thursday, Sept. 15, 8 p.m., Johnny Sal & DJs Mike Love and Squints. Friday, Sept. 16, 6 p.m., DJ Squints is back, with Italian tenor Teo. 9 p.m., Yorktown’s own classic rock cover band Class Action. Saturday, Sept. 17, 7 p.m., Johnny T. & Johnny Gale --golden oldies from the ‘50s and ‘60s with The Ultimate Tribute Band, featuring members of The Planotones. Sunday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m., Pane e Cioccolata band with Luigi Trombetta and Angelo Coppola.
  • Opening procession/ceremony: Thursday, Sept. 15, 5:30 p.m. Led by Grand Marshal Tony Grasso and musicians including trumpeter Sal Lagonia, a Yorktown town justice. It departs from behind the Commerce Street firehouse and proceeds to Railroad Park, where the statue of Saint Gennaro will be on display. The national anthem will be sung by country music star and Yorktown resident Jessica Lynn.
  • Pines Bridge Monument donation: Each year, a portion of the feast's proceeds are donated to faith-based groups, community charities and civic organizations by the nonprofit, CCM of Westchester, Inc. Grasso has chosen the Pines Bridge Monument Fund as this year's recipient. The proposed monument would pay homage to Revolutionary War soldiers. Renderings of the monument and of the town's Depot Square beautification project will be displayed at the historic Yorktown Depot in Railroad Park.
