The pavilion – which also housed tennis courts and a skating rink – was heavily damaged by a fire in December.

The village had hopes of reopening the ice skating rink, but plans were “deep-sixed” by Mother Nature, Zegarelli said in his latest report.

Crews will demolish what’s left of the roof, supporting beams, and stone-encased piers, he said, over the next several weeks.

For safety reasons, residents are asked to stay away from the area where work is being done and debris is being removed.

Phase 2 of the project will focus on getting the pool facility up and running for the traditional Memorial Day opening, Zegarelli said.

While fire officials are still investigating the blaze, Zegarelli said in his report that there is “no doubt” that it was purposefully set and not due to mechanical or other reasons.

Although folks are anxious for the probe to reach a final conclusion, they can “rest assured nothing is being ignored, nothing left to chance,” Zegarelli said.

Police are still seeking any information they can get, he said, adding that everything they are told will be kept strictly confidential.

On the issue of the recent early morning break-ins at two businesses in the village, Zegarelli said that local authorities are working closely with the New York City Police Department to explore possible links there.

Zegarelli reminded residents that the Route 9 and 9A corridors are targets for burglars who like easy in-and-out hits.
