Assemblywoman Sandy Galef's 'Speak Out' To Focus On Area Drug Problems

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Assemblywoman Sandy Galef hosts Ellen Morehouse, executive director of Student Assistance Services Corp., Doreen Lockwood of Putnam Family and Community Services and Susan Salomone, founder of Drug Crisis in our Backyard, on her local public access television show, "Speak Out with Sandy Galef."

The women cover many topics with Galef, including substance abuse prevention in the Hudson Valley, as well as why and how so many young people are being introduced to these dangerous substances such as heroin.

Salomone, the parent of a fatal overdose victim, discusses the stigma and denial associated with drug abuse, preventative measures for substance abuse, and how prescription drugs are insidiously linked to illegal substance abuse including heroin. The three women also join together in a conversation about how the substance abuse problem is affecting Putnam and Westchester counties and the potential consequences of abusing substances.

Stigma, abuse prevention, and the community impact of substance abuse are just a few of the topics they discuss, which are critical issues for residents of the Hudson Valley.

"Substance abuse has affected so many families in the Hudson Valley and across the nation," says Galef. "These women have committed themselves to providing us with essential information to combat substance abuse. We must make sure that our communities become aware of the dangers of this abuse and its tragic consequences, and how we can work together towards prevention."
