58,000 in Westchester Lose Power After Freak Snow

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. – Con Edison anticipates the heavy and wet snowfall from Saturday afternoon and evening will result in multi-day power outages for an estimated 58,000 customers in Westchester County.

“It’s a little hard just yet to give estimated time for restoration, we have go and assess the damage, we’ll figure out how many customers are out but it’s a little too early to find out when people will come back just yet,” said Alfonso Quiroz, spokesperson for Con Edison, on Saturday night.

Con Edison has not called in mutual aid just yet, which would bring crews from around the state and country into Westchester to help get the juice flowing again.

Power outages are concentrated in Westchester County, but Con Edison officials say there are another 6,000 customers in the Bronx without power, and some scattered outages through Staten Island and other boroughs.

Con Edison officials remind residents not to go near power lines, and to report outages to Con Edison officials at 1-800-75-Con-Ed. Downed trees and dangerous conditions should be reported to local department of public works officials, fire and police departments.
