The Foundry Fitness Center at 104 Spring St. offers personal training, boot camp and kettle bell classes, along with hosting birthday parties and a health and wellness seminar series.

The Center is run by Elwyn Hutter, an Armonk resident with deep business roots in the Ossining community (his mother owns The Art Barn), and Avery Katz of Yorktown; both are certified at multiple CrossFit levels.

Hutter said he has been doing CrossFit for the past few years and felt his gym was filling a void in the area. "There are no CrossFit gyms or group fitness places like this in Ossining or even the Rivertowns," he said. "We saw a hole in the area and think there is a large enough population to support this."

The two believe CrossFit is ideal because everyone works out together which helps spur motivation. "You have people from 18 to 80 really pushing each other," said Katz. With group fitness, people become part of their own community.

"You're more likely to stick with the program," added Hutter. "You end up doing things that you didn't think you could do."

Hutter and Katz said the personal nature of Foundry is what sets them apart from big box gyms. Explained Hutter: "We enable clients to really attach themselves to goals and realize their fitness wishes."
