A storm system overspreading the area has resulted in light snow and snow squalls in some spots late Saturday afternoon.
Snow first arrived in areas farther west, including Rockland, at around 3 p.m.
Other than some squalls, the snow should remain lift and result in a coating to a half inch of accumulation in spots, the National Weather Service said in a Special Weather Statement released at 3:43 p.m. Saturday. The light snow will likely taper off toward evening, the statement said.
The overnight low will be in the mid-20s.
It will clear up Sunday with sunny skies and a high around 40.
After another sunny day on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there is a chance of freezing rain overnight into Tuesday.
