The enforcement, which ran from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Interstate 684, resulted in 33 tickets for speeding, and 17 for other traffic-related infractions, said Trooper Melissa McMorris, spokeswoman for the New York State Police.

State police troopers conduct speed enforcement details throughout the area, especially on areas of Interstate 684, the Sprain Brook Parkway and the Taconic State Parkway that have more speed related collisions resulting in the loss of life or serious injuries, McMorris said.

"We routinely review our safety plan and identify locations where there is a high volume of speed related motor vehicle crashes," she added. "As a way to reduce speed-related collisions, we conduct localized speed enforcement details targeting those areas."

McMorris said the New York State Police Troop K put a tremendous emphasis on highway safety and focus on speed enforcement, impaired driving, and distracted driving on every roadway located within the troop's four county patrol area.

"Drivers who violate traffic laws put others at risk and we will take every opportunity to stop and issue tickets to all violators," she said. "It is a priority of the state police to keep impaired and aggressive drivers off of our roadways so law-abiding citizens can safely travel throughout the state."
