State police have provided information on a serious three-car crash with injuries that initially resulted in the closure of two lanes on I-684 near the Westchester/Putnam border early Monday afternoon, causing hours-long delays in the area.

Two of the three lanes reopened about an hour after the 12:35 p.m. crash before the third lane cleared.

The crash, involving an overturned vehicle on the northbound side, was between Exit 8 (Hardscrabble Road) in North Salem and I-84 in Putnam and occurred around 1:15 p.m.

An investigation indicates that James Desposito, age 64, of Bethel, Conn., was traveling south on I-684.

Melissa Romagnoli, 44, of Fishkill, and Patrick N. Dell, 52, of Glastonbury, Conn.,, were traveling north on I-684, police said.

Desposito’s vehicle reportedly exited the roadway due to unsafe speed for the weather conditions, according to police. His vehicle entered the median and struck Dell’s northbound vehicle, police said. Romagnoli, unable to take evasive action, subsequently struck Desposito’s vehicle.

Desposito and Romagnoli were transported to Danbury Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
