MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. - Despite playing a "slow" first half, and with its senior scoring star feeling ill, the three-time defending state champion Ossining High girls basketball team still managed to overcome Monroe-Woodbury Friday night, toppling the Crusaders, 59-44, in a regional final at Orange County Community College.

Senior Shadeen Samuels, dealing with a stomach bug, scored 23 for the Pride, but 19 of those came in the first half.

Ossining, now 24-2 and winner of the last six sectional titles, is set to play in a state semifinal Friday at Hudson Valley Community College.
