Ossining Girls Basketball Advances To Section 1 Semifinals

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Devonte Banner had 10 points and the Mount Vernon defense proved the be the difference Thursday as the Knights defeated rival New Rochelle 46-40 in the Section 1 Class AA quarterfinals.

Mount Vernon will play Mahopac on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the County Center in the semifinals. The Knights avenged last year's stunning New Rochelle victory in the Class AA championship game on a last second, 60-foot three-point shot by New Rochelle's Khalil Edney.

Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino will take his team to the County Center for the 20th time in his 20 seasons as head coach,

Mahopac got past Fox Lane 69-66 in overtime to reach the semifinals. Spring Valley topped White Plains 69-66 and Clarkstown South defeated Arlington High School 59-51 to advance to the other semifinal game.

Section 1 Class AA Girls Tournament

Ossining, Greeley To Meet In Class AA semfinals

The top-seeded and defending Section 1 Class champion Ossining Pride topped New Rochelle 82-65 to reach next week's semifinals at the County Center. Jalay Knowles finishes with game high 26 points to lead Ossining.

Ossining will face Chappaqua's Horace Greeley, which defeated the Ursuline Academy of New Rochelle to earn the other semifinal spot Thursday at the County Center.

Clarkstown South and Mahopac will meet in the other Class AA semifinal.
