Chong, a 5' 9" guard who recently accepted a scholarship to basketball powerhouse UConn, led Ossining to its first New York State Public Schools state championship in school history.

Chong set a New York State single-season record with 928 points for an average of 34.4 points per game. Chong also averaged 9.1 assists per game, according to the release.

She was also named the New York Girls Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year back in March.

Chong has maintained a B average, is a volleyball standout and has volunteered locally on behalf of youth basketball programs.

This year’s recipients, selected in a total of 20 boys and girls sports, are from 16 different states, according to the NHSCA.

“The 20 young men and women we are honoring today represent the thousands of success stories produced in high school athletics,” NHSCA Executive Director Bob Ferraro Jr. said in a statement. “They have worked extremely hard to develop their skills and have become not just great athletes, but outstanding role models as well, and we are proud to be honoring them.”
