OSSINING, N.Y. - The Village of Ossining’s Spartans Swim Team opened its Northern Westchester Swim Conference Division IV season with team victories over Pocantico Hills (257-194) and Tarrycrest (252-195) last week.

The Spartans roster has a number of new swimmers who stepped up to the challenge of competition.  Head Coach Mike Kane placed the early-season victories in perspective.

"Each meet can be thought of as individual exams or quizzes working up to our big unit test, the NWSC Divisional Champs and the All-County Meet at Playland," Kane said. "And believe me, we still have a lot more cramming to do before those meets at the end of July."

Taking home blue ribbons from these meets were Sinceraty Alexander, Ruth Boehling, Daniel Browne, Katelynn Browne, Alex Carlos, Alex Carrazzone, James Cevasco, Orien Douglas, Yohance Douglas, Kate Flynn, Ivonne and Mathias Gomez, Demetrios Gutierrez, Stella Meyerhoeffer, Vlad Moise, Sammy Novo, Thomas Overacker, Claire Ponnaiya, Ryan Roksvold, Emma and Nico San Martin, Gabby Santana, Samantha Segundo, Tanmay Singhal, Roy Song, Tara Tassio, and Juliet Weglarz.

Ruth Boehling returned to the pool with a second-place finish in both the 14-Under 50-meter breaststroke and the 15-Under girls’ 200-meter freestyle relay team. Hailey Roksvold took home fourth in the 12-Under 50-meter backstroke and fifth in the 14-Under 100-meter freestyle.

Serafina Capasso took third in the 10-Under backstroke and breaststroke and fifth against much older competitors in the 14-Under butterfly. Gyelle Moise took second in the 10-Under breaststroke and third in the 18-under butterfly.

Mihika Singhal came in fourth in the 14-Under backstroke, and sixth in the 12-Under breaststroke and freestyle events. Singhal's 11-Under freestyle relay team with Stella Meyerhoeffer, Sinceraty Alexander and Tara Tassio, took second.

Alex Carrazzone swept blue, taking first in the 12-Under backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, as well as winning the 15-Under freestyle relay with teammates James Cevasco, Vlad Moise, and Nico San Martin.

In an inter-divisional match-up with Bedford Village Swim and Dive Team last Thurdsay, Ossining was edged out by a mere five points. Young swimmer highlights included Gyelle Moise’s second place finish in the 10-Under 50-meter backstroke, and her third place in the 18-Under 50-meter butterfly.
