Ossining Routs Lincoln in Outbracket Playoff Game

OSSINING, N.Y. – The Ossining Pride had a tough time getting to the playoffs and did not take the opportunity for granted Wednesday.

The No. 14 Pride dismantled visiting No. 19 Lincoln, 71-44, in the outbracket round of the Class AA playoffs. Co-coach Ed Walker said that the win was crucial after Ossining’s less than desirable regular season.

“We had a pretty rough season,” Walker said. “We ended up 5-13, which is pretty rough. We’ve had better seasons in the past and our team has been a little down. So coming into the playoffs with a big win like this and a big margin like this and playing as a team is a big push for us – very important.”

The game was never in question for Ossining, which led 17-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Pride built a 36-22 lead at halftime and extended it to 60-33 at the end of the third quarter.

Ossining's speed proved to be too much for Lincoln, as the Pride continually slashed to the hoop and drew the foul, put the ball in the basket, or both.

“We’ve got a few juniors who usually get us started pretty fast,” Walker said. “They’ve got a lot of intensity, a lot of hustle, a lot of energy. So we usually start with our juniors then bring our seniors in to keep us going.”

One of those juniors, Xavier Haye-Robinson, led the Pride with 16 points while Sam Lacour added 13 points. Carmine Gerrity-Gemei had 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals for Ossining.

Ossining will travel to No. 3 Mahopac on Friday for a 6 p.m. game.
