Ossining, Irvington Girls Basketball Host Tourney

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – The elite Ossining High School and Irvington High School girls’ basketball programs will host and meet on the court when eight local girls’ high school basketball teams play in Sunday’s Autism Classic at Irvington High School.

Section 1 Class AA champion Ossining will meet defending New York State and section 1 Class B champion Irvington in the featured finale at 5:15 p.m. The Ossining girls’ basketball program and its coach Dan Ricci has organized the tournament for three years to raise awareness and funding for autism research.

Irvington and Ossining are both unbeaten as of Thursday, but will put that streak on the line in what should prove to be a great matchup of top area teams in a 5:15 p.m. scheduled tipoff.

Rye will meet Kennedy Catholic at noon, Edgemont and Valhalla will tipoff at 1:45 p.m. and Carmel will face the Ursuline School of New Rochelle at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Junior Saniya Chong leads the high-scoring Pride against a balanced Bulldogs team that features Alexis Martins, Brittni Lai and Marley Giddins that boast a stifling defense. Irvington defeated Scarsdale in last year’s event.

The admission of $5 is good for all games and there will be a 50/50 raffle. The participating teams will also donate baked goods to be sold at the concession stands.
