Ossining HS Girls Basketball Team Enters New Year On Hot Streak

OSSINING, N.Y. -- The Ossining High School girls basketball team enters the new year on a high note after winning the Slam Dunk Tournament last week and earning the top ranking from MaxPreps in Section 1.

Ossining defeated Bishop Loughlin, 77-64, in winning the Slam Dunk Tournament championship game at Westchester County Center. Tournament MVP Jalay Knowles scored 36 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Ossining, while Shadeen Samuels scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Ossining (5-2) lost to Archbishop Molloy and Madison of Vienna, Va. this season, before rebounding to win the Slam Dunk title. In a 71-32 win over Jamesville-DeWitt, Knowles and Samuels combined for 42 points in a 71-32 rout.

Molloy is the top-ranked team in Class AA, by the New York State Sportsriters Association, while Ossining is ranked No. 2 in a poll released Dec. 30. Bishop Loughlin is ranked No. 7. Click here for the MaxPreps' rankings and here for the New York writers' rankings.

Ossining returns to the court on Wednesday, when it visits Walter Panas High School (4-2).
