Ossining Girls Capture First State Basketball Crown

OSSINING, N.Y, - The Ossining High School girls basketball team won its first state championship Saturday with an 86-69 victory over Gates-Chili in the Class AA tournament at Hudson Valley Community College in upstate Troy.

Saniya Chong scored a game-high 34 points, including 18 points in the first half, as the the Pride (21-4) made school history by bringing a title home to Ossining High.

Chong, who set a state record for most points scored in a season, has scored more than 2,950 points during her high school career.

Andra Espinoza-Hunter had 14 points in the first half as Ossining opened what would turn out to be an insurmountable 26-point lead.

Coach Dan Ricci's state champions advanced to next weekend's State Federation Tournament, which matches champions from New York's public, parochial and private school leagues.
