Ossining Girls Bounce Greeley In Section 1 Class A Basketball Semifinal

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Shaneen Samuels and Jalay Knowles combined for 37 points Thursday to lead top-seeded Ossining to a 73-47 victory over Greeley in a Section 1 Class AA girls basketball semifinal at the Westchester County Center.

The Ossining Pride will defend their Section 1 Class AA title in the championship game against Mahopac Sunday at 2 p.m.

Samuels scored 18 and Knowles 19 and Abby Squirrell added depth to the Pride's inside game. The trio gathered 24 rebounds and kept Greeley from scoring inside.

The three-time defending Section 1 and 2012-2013 state champion Pride upped their record to 19-2. No. 4 Greeley finished at 16-5.

Ossining will face seventh-seeded Mahopac, a winner over Clarkstown South in the other semfinal, Sunday at 2 p.m. in the final at the County Center.

The Pride led 21-13 after one quarter with Knowles and Cyan Scarduzio each scoring seven points in the opening period. The Pride led 41-22 at halftime and 61-37 after three quarters.

Greeley's Ashley Rosenberg led her team with 16 points, including 8 in the first quarter, and Meaghan Townsend added 14 for the Quakers.

Boys Class B championship.No. 6 Woodlands vs. No. 4 Putnam Valley, 2 p.m.

Boys Class A championship. No. 1 Eastchester vs. No. 2 Walter Panas, 4 p.m.

Sunday, March 2

Boys Class AA championship (winner of Mount Vernon-Mahopac vs (winner of Clarkstown South-Spring Valley.), noon.

Girls Class AA championship. No. 7 Mahopac vs. No. 1 Ossining, 2 p.m.
