Ossining Girls Basketball Aim for Second Title

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Ossining is aiming to repeat when the top seed plays second-seeded Our Lady of Lourdes in the Section 1 Class AA Girl’s Basketball Championship final on Sunday at the Westchester County Center.

The winner advances to a regional final on Friday at Pace University in Pleasantville. Either Ossining or Lourdes will face the Binghamton (Section 4)-Section 9 champion.

The Pride, who has Section 1’s best player in junior guard Saniya Chong, also won the Class AA championship in 2004.

Lourdes had an unprecedented 15-year run as a Section 1 champion. From 1992 to 1996, Lourdes won the Class C title. Beginning in 1997 through 2003, Lourdes was the Class B champion and 2004 through 2006, it won the Class A championship.

Ossining advanced to the final with a victory over John Jay-East Fishkill. Chong scored 33 points and dished out 14 assists and seventh grader Andra Espinoza-Hunter scored 21 points.
