Ossining Falls to Poughkeepsie in Class A Playoff

The Ossining Pride led briefly Wednesday, but powerhouse top-seeded Poughkeepsie High School recovered from the early deficit and rolled to a 41-6 victory in the Section 1 Class A semifinals played at Arlington High School.

The Pioneers (9-0) moved on to Sunday’s Class A championship final against John Jay-Cross River at Mahopac High School at 4:30 p.m., while Ossining (6-3) was eliminated from the playoffs. The game was postponed from its scheduled Tuesday 3 p.m. kickoff and moved from Poughkeepsie High School to Arlington due to the recent snowstorm.

Poughkeepsie quarterback Josh Oliver, who leads the Pioneers in rushing and passing yards and touchdowns, scored twice on the ground and threw a touchdown pass to Kwane Hayle.

Pride quarterback Brian Connelly hit tight end Sebastian Montenegro with an 11-yard scoring pass for an early 6-0 lead.

The Pride, which had four come-from-behind victories during an exciting regular season, defeated Gorton 35-26 in last week’s quarterfinals to earn a spot in the semifinals.
