The Ossining Athletic Booster Club is returning for the 2016-2017 school year with a new board of directors. The group supports Ossining's athletic teams from modified sports in 7th and 8th grade through high school, by supplying equipment and other items that might not be part of the school budget. The club also gives scholarships to graduating seniors.

To help raise funds, the club runs the concession stands at Ossining football games and also sells Ossining merchandise. Chris Caparelli said it was time for some new blood at the booster club.

"The previous board had been there for at least five years and all of their kids had graduated," Caparelli said. "My oldest is in 8th grade, we all have kids on the younger side. We're trying to get more parents involved."

Caparelli said he wants to see more members join the club, which will allow them to increase their scholarship fund and help provide for the funds to allow Ossining sports teams to travel to games. Another goal is to get a physical concession stand built at the high school.

Ossining's sports teams, which include the state champion girls basketball team, mean a lot to the community, Caparelli said.

"It provides students with an opportunity to do a physical activity and learn about sportsmanship," Caparelli said. "The football games bring the community together and are very well attended."

While many focus on the football and the girl's basketball team, Caparelli would like to see all the teams get some love.

"We try to promote everybody," Caparelli said. "We would like to see people come out for the volleyball team and the soccer team. Ossining takes pride in its teams, it's right in the name- we're the Ossining Pride.
