Ossining Boys Swim Team Drops First Meet of Year

HARRISON, N.Y. – Ossining’s swimmers on the 400 freestyle relay team faced a tough challenge against Harrison’s crew. So Ossining coach Katrina Baker’s reaction was understandably a mix of joy and shock when she looked at the scoreboard and saw that her boys had won by one 100th of a second.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Baker said. “The four boys they went against on Harrison are four extremely talented kids. It was great to see that we were able to pull it out.”

Despite the win in the final, and most exciting, event of the afternoon, Harrison defeated Ossining, 48-44, at Louis M. Klein Middle School on Wednesday in each team’s first meet of the season.

Ossining’s team in the 400 relay finished with a time of 3:36:49. Ossining finished at 3:36:50.

Ossining had other reasons to celebrate despite the loss. All four swimmers on the 400 free relay team qualified for sectionals with their times on Wednesday, including Evan Olin and Andrew Snyder.

Harrison’s J.T. Nangle already qualified for the state meet in just his first swim of the season in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.22.

“That was a nice way to start the season,” Harrison coach Phill Dearstyne said.
