Late Surge Gives Ossining Lacrosse Win Over Ursuline

OSSINING, N.Y. — Ossining found itself in a familiar situation with visiting Ursuline, as the teams went to halftime during their Section 1 Class B girls lacrosse opening-round game on Thursday.

During their regular-season match-up, Ossining and Ursuline were also even at the half before the Pride took control in the second half and went on to victory.

Alex Cristello had a major impact in the second half, scoring six of her game-high eight goals. The eighth-seeded Pride defeated the ninth-seeded Koalas, 20-12, for the first sectional win in program history.

"We played them before and we were 10-10 at halftime, and we won, 17-14," Ossining coach Dan Ricci said.

Ossining scored the last two goals of the first half to forge the tie. This gave the Pride momentum going into halftime.

"The girls really wanted it," Ricci said. "They got to every loose ball and finished the opportunities we had." He praised the defense for its play in the second half, specifically goalie Grace Lombardi and defenders Daniella Ferrao and Leann Conklin.

Molly Malone added five goals, and Danielle Gervacio finished with four.

Ossining, now 10-7, outscored Ursuline, 12-4, in the second half. The Pride travel to top-seeded Fox Lane at 4 p.m. Saturday.
