PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. -- If summer-league play is any indication, then the Lakeland varsity field hockey team is prepared to start the season now.
The Lakeland Green team continued the winning tradition with a 10-2 victory over Ossining, Thursday, in the high-school-division final of the Hudson Valley Summer Field Hockey League. Lakeland Green completed the summer with a 9-0 record.
It was the second consecutive summer a Lakeland team went undefeated. Shannon Scavelli, who has verbally committed to attend Michigan, had four goals and Emma Bozek, who gave a verbal commitment to North Carolina, scored three goals. Molly Malone scored for Ossining.
I liked our chemistry this summer, said Bozek, a senior-to-be. We worked really well together. Our passing sequences in the final were really good.
Varsity field hockey practice begins Monday, Aug. 22. Lakeland is the two-time defending New York State Class B champions. The Hornets and coach Sharon Sarsen own a Section 1-leading six state titles. It just shows what we can do when we all work together, Bozek said.
