Enrollment into this scholarship program open to American secondary school students allows recipients to live and study abroad for one academic year. They experience foreign communities and cultures in order to learn about global topics such as human rights issues, community workforce development and health.
Sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the YES Abroad program enables students to study in countries that may include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ghana, South Africa, India, Indonesia, Macedonia, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Philippines, Thailand and Turkey.
The merit-based scholarship covers domestic and international travel; applicable visa fees; medical benefits; room and board; tuition at the local high school; orientations; and fees for educational and cultural activities.
Participants stay with a host family while attending a local high school.
