Ossining Voters Reject School Bus Changes

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining voters rejected changes to the district's transportation in a vote Tuesday.

According to the district, 559 residents voted yes while 688 voted no.

The referendum would have eliminated busing for some middle and high school students as the transportation limit would increase at all schools except Claremont School.

The changes were estimated to save $413,262.

Ossining’s current mileage limits stand at: Kindergarten to third grade – 1/5 miles Fourth to eighth grade – 1 mile Nine to 12th grade – 1.5 miles The proposed limit change would be: Kindergarten to fourth grade – 1/5 miles Fifth grade – 1 mile Sixth to eighth grade – 1.5 miles Nine to 12th grade – 2 miles

The school district encourages the public to attend Wednesday evening’s Board of Education meeting to discuss the result of the Transportation Vote and see how it will affect the 2013-14 budget.  The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Roosevelt School cafeteria.
