OSSINING, N.Y. -- The Ossining Daily Voice accepts signed letters to the editor. Send letters to firstname.lastname@example.org.
As you know on Nov. 6 we held an important Board of Education meeting. During this meeting, we focused on the inequities in State Education Aid and how those inequities are affecting the Ossining School District.
As a reminder, based on the Foundation Aid formula, the Ossining School District currently receives only 55% of the aid it should receive. In fact, only 7 school districts in the State receive less Foundation Aid than Ossining.
Since our meeting, our community worked to ensure that our legislators understand the unique situation that our school district finds itself in.
At this time, I want to thank all of our parents/guardians, community members, and staff for their efforts to call and speak to legislators and write letters on behalf of our school district and community.
Recently, a team comprising of our Board of Education Trustees, members of the School Budget Advisory Committee, Ms. Alita Zuber, and myself traveled to Albany to speak to various legislators. Our meetings were productive. Many of the individuals we met anticipated our arrival based on the phone calls they had received on Monday, Nov. 18.
At this time, we will continue to meet and speak with various key individuals in and out of our community. The purpose is to help them understand the District's situation relative to Foundation Aid.
I encourage you to continue to visit our Fiscal Equity Web page . On this site, you will find links to various resources that will help you stay informed and ways in which you can help.
Our legislators advised us to continue our advocacy efforts. Once again, I would like to thank you all for your efforts and I look forward to working collaboratively throughout the school year
