Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members:
The summertime is anything but slow in the Ossining Union Free School District as employees and contractors work in earnest to improve school buildings and upgrade security. I'd like to take this opportunity to update you on what we're doing.
At Anne M. Dorner Middle School, we continue to make improvements thanks to the facilities bond. These are some of the projects that are scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer:
- Renovating the cafeteria, including an expansion, a new ceiling, new furniture, improvements to the serving area and installing windows to bring in natural light.
- Renovating the nurse's office to improve accessibility and create an examining room. n Installing windows on the ground floor in the front of the building.
- Refurbishing six student bathrooms.
- Installing a high-definition security camera at the front entrance and making other changes to enhance security.
- Improving security in the connector between the academic wing and the music and athletics wing by reducing the amount of glass and replacing it with brick. There will be windows along the top.
- Moving the principal and other staff into the renovated front office.
At Roosevelt School, the district is reclaiming classroom space to serve our growing population as students in the lower grades move up. The project entails adding six classrooms in the part of the building that used to be occupied by district offices, renovating a few existing classrooms, and creating two offices.
Ossining schools are converting from oil to gas at Brookside and Claremont schools to cut down on energy costs. The district is installing a new gas line at Brookside this summer. The gas line is already in at Claremont but hasn't been activated yet. After the conversions, all schools will be using gas as fuel.
At Ossining High School, the district replaced the water main, which was installed in 1929 and was the building's original water main. Thank you for your continued support of our schools as we work to improve our facilities and provide students and staff members with a safe and secure learning and work environment.
