OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining schools has celebrated the grand openings of two important spaces in its buildings – a Maker Space at Ossining High School and a new library at Anne M. Dorner Middle School.

Both spaces opened after months and even years of planning. Dubbed the Omega Hub, the Maker Space classroom at the high school features a space where students can learn and practice computer programming with software like Code Avengers, hone their architectural skills, work with Makey Makey circuits, and create objects using a state-of-the-art 3-D printer.

The Maker Space, in the high school library, will be available for use by individual students working on classroom and non-classroom projects, and by classes with assignments in engineering, the sciences and technology. The space opened on Thursday.

At the middle school, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday to mark the grand opening of the school’s Library Media Center, a long-awaited space that was made possible by the district’s passage of a facilities and construction bond in March 2012.

Work as part of the facilities bond took place all summer at the middle school, and included the completion of new locker rooms, a new fitness center, new music rooms, and replacement of the roof. While construction of the news library was taking place this year, the middle school created a temporary library space. In addition to the library, the school has four new general classrooms and two new computer labs.

The grand opening included music performed by the 8th grade band, a welcome from Principal Regina Cellio, and remarks by Superintendent of Schools Raymond Sanchez, Board of Education President Bill Kress and Aliya Bashir, Student Council president at the middle school.
