OSSINING, N.Y. -- The Ossining Union Free School District has been doing extensive renovations this summer at Anne M. Dorner Middle School and Roosevelt School.

The work is scheduled to be completed before school starts next month. At AMD, the district is completing the third phase of construction that is funded by a bond voters approved a few years ago.

The work completed over the summer includes:

* Enlarging the cafeteria and adding windows in one wall to let natural light in.

* Redoing the kitchen and server area.

* Renovating the nurse’s office to make it more accessible.

*Finishing offices for the principal and other staff.

* Installing windows on the first floor of the building.

* Renovating school entry doors to improve security

* Renovating two student bathrooms on each floor to make them compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

* Removing glass in the connector between the academic and gym wings and replacing it with brick to improve security.

In the first and second phases of construction, the district added a new library, locker rooms, a new roof, four new general classrooms, two computer labs and new music rooms. Workers renovated corridors; replaced classroom doors; and installed new electrical, mechanical and ventilation systems and boilers.

At Roosevelt School this summer, the district has added six classrooms in the space that formerly housed district offices on the top floor and renovated a few existing classrooms on the same floor. The school’s gymnasium is also undergoing renovations, including a new ceiling.

“We are very thankful to our community for their support,” Superintendent Raymond Sanchez said.

“This work was needed to preserve our buildings and ensure that students have an appropriate setting for learning.”
