OSSINING, N.Y. -- Four Ossining High School juniors were selected for the Young Naturalist Award by the American Museum of Natural History for outstanding research on environmental and animal studies.
Kimberly Badger and Soon Il Higashino were named among eight national finalists. Badger is investigating woodpeckers in various locations in New York City, and Il Higashino is researching amphibian decline.
From this elite group of eight students, two will be chosen later this year to win $2,000 dollars, a night in New York City, and a behind the scenes tour of the museum.
The other two outstanding juniors are Jennifer Meikle and Kiran Goveas, who were recognized as semifinalists. Meikle is studying the impact of invasive plant species in New York Botanical Gardens and Kiran is investigating fish evolution at University of Massachusetts at Amherst and in Ossining.
