Area soil and water conservation districts organize the annual academic competition, which has regional, state and national levels, according to a press release.

Ossining’s five-member team, led by teacher Valerie Holmes, has qualified to compete in the New York state Envirothon at Hobart and William Smith colleges in Geneva, N.Y.

That event will be held May 27-28, with the national competition taking place from July 27-Aug. 2 in Missouri.

“Congratulations to Ossining Team 17,” Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said in a press release.

“They are making Westchester proud as they take on other teams from around the state.

“We wish them the best of luck.”

Teams from other Westchester schools also competed in the Hudson Valley event, which was held April 15 at the Sharpe Reservation in Fishkill:

  • John Jay High School, Cross River.
  • Hastings High School, Hastings-on-Hudson.
  • Yorktown High School, Yorktown Heights.
  • Tech Center High School, Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES, Yorktown Heights.
