Ossining High School principal wrote this open letter to returning and new students and their parents.
Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
I hope you had a great summer. I would like to wish you a warm welcome to the 2013-2014 school year. On behalf of the entire faculty, we look forward to a wonderful school year full of accomplishments. A strong school-home partnership is a key factor in academic success and we look forward to working with you this year. Below please find some pertinent information so the opening of our school year together will be as smooth and productive as possible.
Important Information for the Start of the School Year:
Please sign up for O-Blast by going to the Ossining High School homepage and scrolling to the bottom. Click on O-Blasts. All informational mailings from Ossining High School will be emailed to you via O-Blast and posted on the OHS website under “Mailings” in the Principal’s Corner.
Your child’s schedule, progress reports and report cards are available on the Parent Portal. If you have not signed up for the Parent Portal, please come to Ossining High School starting September 4 from 7:45-2:15 and go to the nurse’s office to see Mrs. Brooks.
If you have already signed up for O-Blast and Parent Portal, no further action is required.
If you would like to receive correspondence through the U.S. Mail, please contact Mrs. Juliano in the main office, extension 2302 or via email, Kjuliano@ossining.k12.ny.us. This list does not carry over; you must contact Mrs. Juliano even if you signed up last year. A choice must be made between U. S. Mail and electronic communications. A family cannot receive both.
Please be sure to check the OHS website on a regular basis for valuable information relating to Ossining High School: www.ossiningufsd.org. Please know that this year you can access contact information for all employees via our Web site. Please visit our school Web site and under the Staff Directory tab, enter the employee’s name that you would like to search.
During the first few class sessions, students will receive course information sheets from each of their teachers. This information will include the goals of the course, the materials to be used, the content to be covered, the homework policy, the marking and grading system, and the attendance regulations. These will also be posted on the teachers’ e-chalk page.
Within the first several weeks of school, all students will receive agendas that contain very important information about the school program. Please review these agendas carefully.
- All students will be issued an I.D. card free of charge that must be carried at all times during the school day. Students must show their ID card when entering the building.
- If a student will be absent, please call 762-5760, Extension 2401.
- Electronic communication devices (i.e. cell phones, etc.) cannot be used in any classroom in Ossining High School.
- Ossining High School has a modified open campus for sophomores who did not fail aclass as a freshman, juniors, and seniors in good standing. Freshmen are not allowed to leave the campus for any reason and will deal with administrative consequences should they do so.
As a reminder, state law prohibits smoking on school property for all individuals. In addition, students who are allowed to leave campus and cross Route 9 must do so at the crosswalk.
Monday, September 9, 2013 will be a full day of orientation for all incoming 9ninth-grade students only. Tuesday, September 10, 2013, will be the first full day of classes for all students at Ossining High School. Students are expected to arrive promptly for their period 1 class beginning at 7:45 a.m. and follow their normal school schedule. On Thursday, September 19, 2013, at 7 p.m., our Ossining High School Parent, Teacher, and Student Association will sponsor the annual Back-To-School Night. This evening will provide the opportunity for parents to meet teachers and to learn more about the various activities conducted by our parents’ association.
Please remember that students must enter the building from the following entrances: The Emwilton parking lot and the circle off Wolden Road. Students who are dropped off by car in the morning should be let out in the Wolden Road lot in front of the gate next to the appropriate sign prior to 7:30 a.m. Please do not use the Emwilton Place lot. If you have any questions prior to the opening of school, administrators and counselors will be available to help you with your concerns. Please feel free to call or email.
