For three months, third-year French students at Ossining High School have practiced their language skills with students at the Tomblaine School in Nancy, France over online calls. The two groups are scheduled to meet in person Thursday, April 24, when the French students were scheduled to visit Ossining High School for the day.

Ossining High School French teacher Oumar Sarr, with the help of the Technology Department, set up the calls for the students to share information about their communities, schools, music, food and pastimes "all while gaining valuable experience conversing with native speakers of the language they are learning," according to a press release. The French students are in an English language class.

Sarr said Ossining High School was able to export its technology skills to teachers in France by showing them how to use Google Apps for Education in their instruction. The end result was a Google Community Page with 75 active participants, collaborating in English and French, according to the press release.

“We have students creating Power Point Presentations together even though they are separated by thousands of miles and an ocean,” said Sarr in the release.
