The tongue-in-cheek show takes on the serious subject of water conservation, while poking fun at its own theme of a town at the mercy of a corporation that charges residents to use the toilet during a drought.

“We chose 'Urinetown' because its clever wit and humor match the skills, attitude, and passion of our students, as well as the company’s talent for singing and dancing,” director Paul Kite said in a statement. “And Urinetown is a parody with the kind of witty humor that’s appreciated by audience members of every age.”

In a nod to the theme, the audience can opt in for a small donation to use the bathrooms, with the money raised going to Charity: Water, which funds projects that provide clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. The school district has a long relationship with Charity: Water, having raised more than $10,000 during the last six years.
