During his master class, Perlow critiqued Briarcliff High School drama students’ performances and answered questions about his time starring in “La Cage Aux Folles” on Broadway and in the national tour of “Wicked.”
“The experience I had at Briarcliff was a huge informative part of my young days as an actor and I don’t imagine I would gone on to theater school without it,” said Perlow. “The (high school facility) facility is incredible and facilities like this should not be taken for granted. The students here are really fortunate to have what they have not only in a facility, but in their educators. It’s just a top program and I am really proud to be from here.”
After graduating from Briarcliff High School in 2003, Perlow went on to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and in addition to acting, has served as assistant director on well-known Broadway shows. Drama teacher Jamie Mandel said Perlow starred in multiple productions while at the high school.
“He was really a driving force in the performing arts department and he was just such a pleasure to work with,” said Mandel.
Students who had their songs and monologues critiqued by Perlow during his master class said it was invaluable to have feedback from such a seasoned industry veteran.
“He gave me a different perspective which was really eye-opening,” said sophomore Kelly Hooper. “He took the lyrics and made them something different and new.”
“He showed me ways to make it better, more believable and how to interpret every little line,” said junior Brian Danuff, who performed a monologue.
Perlow also took time to answer student questions about the importance of attending a performing arts program in college and how to enter the industry.
“The students were really responsive and we had a really good time,” said Perlow.
