OSSINING, N.Y. -- Peter Tripodi could be Osssining's boy wonder.

At the age of 24, the Republican candidate for Westchester County Legislator District 9, was elected to the Ossining Town Board. Now, four years later, the almost lifelong Ossining resident is aiming higher.

"I am running for office because this legislative district deserves better representation," Tripodi said. "It deserves a legislator that will work together with (County Executive) Rob Astorino, with legislators on both sides of the aisle, and really address all the challenges we face as a county."

Tripodi touts his bipartisan record, being the only Republican on the village or town board.

"Voters want smart elected officials, but they also want representatives who will listen and not lecture; that will cooperate, not obstruct and who will put the people over politics," Tripodi said.

Tripodi says Ossining is blessed by being culturally diverse and community minded.

"So many Ossining residents volunteer and give back and that’s what makes it so special," Tripodi said. "It’s why I am proud to be a public servant and a volunteer firefighter in this town.  The people of Ossining lead by example and it has inspired me to community service too."

Tripodi said he enjoys eating at Sassi Deli, Los Abuelos, Dom and Vinny's, Docas and the Landmark Diner.

"Ossining means community," Tripodi said. "It means working together regardless of age, national origin, political affiliation, race, creed and gender. It's about service."

Tripodi said he would work to act on capital projects in his district and his goal is not to obstruct government.

"We already see too much of that in Washington," Tripodi said. "I will bring to the board of legislators the same approach I've employed as a councilman."

The councilman said he would also work to protect Ossining's zoning code which he feels is under threat from the county's anti-discrimination settlement with HUD that requires 750 units of affordable housing to be built.

"I put my faith in the people of Ossining, and not the federal bureaucracy that wants to dismantle our local zoning laws," Tripodi said.

District 9 represents Ossining, Peekskill, Cortlandt and Briarcliff.
