OSSINING, N.Y. ? Ossining poll worker Dorothy Hinnant was amazed at the voter turnout Tuesday afternoon.

"We've been busy all day and we'll probably get slammed after 5 p.m.," she said.

Hinnant was stationed at the Roosevelt School, where 275 people had voted by 3:30 p.m. She said turnout had been vastly different from September's primaries, where only 11 people cast ballots at the school.

Poll workers at other Ossining stations also reported high turnouts and said they expected larger crowds after people got off work. The polls are open until 9 p.m.

"We've been busy most of the day," Victor Eichorn said. Eichorn was stationed at the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps headquarters. "This morning we had a line out the door."
